Do We See?

Yesterday as I was out with my family, we were in the car listening to a Keith Green song "Asleep in the Light", and as I was listening, the Lord was revealing to me how many people are so lost in this world and need Him. It broke my heart as I was looking around seeing how many were headed straight to hell, yet all we seem to do as Christians, is be stuck in our little comfort zones and not care. The majority of Christians aren't reaching out like they should, and I admit, I don't reach out enough either. I've been reading in Acts this past week about Steven and Peter and how they had such a passion for the Lord, they were determined to tell everyone about Jesus and they didn't care whether that meant persecution or imprisonment! Yet, here in America, we live in a free country (or at least as of now it is!) and we can't even pass out a tract or tell someone Jesus loves them! I mean, that is the very least we can do, and most of us don't even do that! I'm not just talking to you, but I'm talking to myself as well. We all need to do better. I believe that if we aren't called to be missionaries to another country, we are called to be a missionary right here wherever you are.

Anyway, I just want to challenge us all to reach out to the lost more, whether it's passing out tracts or preaching to crowds, let's each do what we can for Christ. I would like to leave you with this song from Keith Green "Asleep in the Light". If you've never heard of Keith Green, I would recommend buying his CD. He had such a passion for the Lord, it is truly inspiring and convicting. Each of his songs have such deep meaning such as this one.....

Do you see, do you see
All the people sinking down
Don't you care, don't you care
Are you gonna let them drown

How can you be so numb
Not to care if they come
You close your eyes
And pretend the job's done

"Oh bless me Lord, bless me Lord"
You know it's all I ever hear
No one aches, no one hurts
No one even sheds one tear

But He cries, He weeps, He bleeds
And He cares for your needs
And you just lay back
And keep soaking it in,
Oh, can't you see it's such a sin?

Cause He brings people to you door,
And you turn them away
As you smile and say,
"God bless you, be at peace"
And all heaven just weeps
Cause Jesus came to your door
You've left him out on the streets

Open up open up
And give yourself away
You see the need, you hear the cries
So how can you delay

God's calling and you're the one
But like Jonah you run
He's told you to speak
But you keep holding it in,
Oh can't you see it's such a sin?

The world is sleeping in the dark
That the church just can't fight
Cause it's asleep in the light
How can you be so dead
When you've been so well fed
Jesus rose from the grave
And you, you can't even get out of bed

Oh, Jesus rose from the dead
Come on, get out of your bed

How can you be so numb
Not to care if they come
You close your eyes
And pretend the job's done
You close your eyes
And pretend the job's done

Don't close your eyes
Don't pretend the jobs done
Come away, come away, come away with Me my love,
Come away, from this mess, come away with Me, my love.

“To be a Christian and have only a lukewarm, passionless heart for Christ and the souls of lost men and women is a terrible indictment. Millions of people die without knowing Jesus because the Christians they came into contact with couldn’t be bothered to be ‘prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have’(1 Peter 3:15)."

  1. I am such a HUGE Keith Green fan! What a wonderful post - something very good for us all to consider. No matter how much we do it's not enough....we need to love more, pray more, do more for the cause of Christ. Bless you, Michelle! Q.'

  2. Hey Michelle, wonderful post! I've been reading a lot of books lately about evangelism for a leadership training that I'm involved in, and it's been convicting for me because like you said, I get all caught up in my own freedom and ease and I don't think about the fact that God has called me to be a messenger for His Truth. We are supposed to proclaim Christ in EVERYTHING we do, both with our words and actions, and I selfishly get wrapped up in my own little world and fail to care for the lost. I know some people probably fear rejection and therefore don't even try to be a witness, but when we think about the fact that it's our JOB to proclaim Christ and it's the LORD Who brings salvation, then we ought to shirk the spirit of fear that tries to grip us, because we have not been given a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, of power, and of a sound mind. May we never feel that our efforts might be too meager or too few because it is God that gives us the strength and power to live and speak for Him, as long as we are willing to step out of the way and give up our own thoughts and ways, and let the power and love of Christ shine through us!

  3. Yesterday we were talking on this very subject, that song has a good message!

I would definitely recomend your sister going to the course I went to with The Institute in Photographic Studies! It called Prizewinning Photography. I personally know some of the instructors and highly recomend taking all of their courses! I just added their button on the side of my blog, it's the IPS one. =)

  4. Very good post, and very true, though it's funny how sometimes people get so caught up in "evangilizing" but they forget to live the Bible in their own lives.
